The 2019 class is basically in the rearview mirror and now, coaches are zoning in on filling up next year’s class. I was able to track down five prospects from the state of Tennessee in the 2020 class – one in the 2021 class – on how their recruitment is going.
As the AAU season continues, I will be giving as many updates as I can on Tennessee’s top prospects from the 2020 and 2021 classes.
Here’s the latest on some of Tennessee’s best:
Drew Williams, BMaze Elite 17U: The 6-foot-8, 205-pound guard/forward told me Murray State, East Tennessee State, Belmont, and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have been recruiting him the hardest. Williams was originally part of the 2020 class, but decided to reclassify. Since he has done so, Auburn, Western Carolina, Tennessee and Vanderbilt have been in contact with him.
Andersson Garcia, Atlanta Celtics 17U: Garcia is a 6-7 wing that has offers from South Alabama, Pacific, ETSU, and Tennessee State. He has interests from Fresno State, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Arkansas State, and California State University Fullerton. As of right now, he doesn’t have any visits setup with schools.
Jalen Bo Montgomery, Hoop City 17U: Rice, Rhode Island, and Lipscomb are currently looking at Montgomery. The 6-5 combo guard told me that he will be setting up some official visits soon.
Emory Lanier, BMaze Elite 17U: Rice and ETSU are recruiting Lanier the hardest at the moment. He holds offers from College of Charleston, Canisius, Buffalo, and UT-Arlington. Lanier, who’s 6-3 ½, holds interests from Belmont, Davidson, Wofford, Tulsa, Mercer, Bucknell and University of Pennsylvania.
Jacobi Wood, Work Hard Be Humble 17U: The 6-2 guard told me that UT-Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee State, Belmont, Wofford, Winthrop, Temple, Appalachian State, Lipscomb, James Madison and Virginia Tech are recruiting him the hardest at the moment. Wood currently has visits setup with Belmont, Wofford, MTSU, James Madison and Temple for the month of June.
Ray Tyler, Work Hard Be Humble 17U: The 6-foot point guard has been hearing from Lipscomb, Chattanooga, MTSU, and Murray State. Coaches from Lipscomb and MTSU came to see Tyler play this past weekend at the Hoopseen Atlanta Jam. Tyler heard from Wofford early on in the recruiting process. As of right now, Tyler doesn’t have any official visits setup.
