Jayhawk Invitational: Day 1 Stock Risers (2020)

<p>OLATHE, Kan. — The opening round of the 2019 Jayhawk Invitational kicked off on Friday at locations across Kansas City and several players raised their profile with big performances.</p> <p>Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several under-the-radar types who raised their profile with strong performances.</p> <p><b>22 — Peyton Mallory, 5’11, 2020, Free State, Lawrence Thunder (pictured)</b></p> <p>Mallory is a terrific all-around lead guard as he displays terrific court vision and playmaking skills. He can knock down 3-pointers and get to the basket, but is at his best leading a team as a pass-first point guard. He handles it under pressure, has the ability to attack the basket and can twist and contort his body in the lane to get up tough chances in traffic.</p> <p><strong>8 — Joe Berry, 6'3, G, 2021, Washburn Rural, Team YOBO</strong></p> <p>Berry has taken his game to new heights and has made a name for himself as he helped lead Washburn Rural to a big season. Berry is long, rangy and skilled with the ability to shoot the 3, drive to the basket and can defend multiple positions thanks to his length. Berry can throw down a dunk or come off a screen for a 3, but can also create a little off the dribble.</p> <p><strong>8 — Steele Chapman, 6'2, G, 2020, Campus, Kansas Pray N Play</strong></p> <p>One of the state's best all-around guards in the 2020 class, Chapman is a key part of a talented Kansas Pray N Play squad that has a deep roster of prospects. Chapman stood out on Friday in an opening round win over Plutp thanks to a lock-down defensive effort as he pressured the ball, got in opponents shorts and forced several key turnovers. </p> <p><b>23 — Michael Harris. 6’2, F, 2020, Shawnee Mission North, KC Fury</b></p> <p>The Fury were outmatched in its opening contest to the Arsenal out of St. Louis, but Shawnee Mission North 2020 foreward Michael Harris had some bright moments as he fought and battled a big front line. Harris was a key performer this past season in several games we saw off the bench for Shawnee Mission North and showed some of his all-around skills on Friday. He’s an undersized bog man who works extremely hard in the paint even when overmatched size-wise. He is strong, can get on the offensive glass and can horse in a basket in traffic. Harris can also step out and consistently knock down 10-15 foot jumpers and surprises when an occasional blocked shot.</p> <p><b>2 — Ethan Lincoln, 6’2, G, 2020, Free State, Lawrence Thunder</b></p> <p>Known for his tough, gritty defense last year at Free State, Lincoln showed the ability to knock down outside shots on Friday. He has good lift and a high release point, making his shot tough to contest. But he also continued to show the all-around game and willingness to do the little things to help his team win. Lincoln comes up with steals, can guard multiple spots and can score in transition.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
