The ECI 16U Select team has a number of big school players who haven’t yet proven themselves at the varsity level of competition, so this could be a big summer for many of them to make a name for themselves.
Here’s a quick look
Guards: Jase Crockett, Gage Anderson, Noah Fosland, Carson Rohrich, Jayden Pomarleau, Blake Walthall
Crockett was a varsity regular for Northern Cass High School and was one of the best players in Class B North Dakota. He’s an explosive guard who can not only shoot from deep, but get by people and callapse the defense.
Anderson and Rohrich are undersized guards who will need to show they can use their height to leverage opposing ball handlers on a consistent basis.
Fosland and Pomarleau were two of the talented guards stuck behind some really good seniors last year at Bismarck Century but they’ll be in the mix for quite a bit more playing time next winter. So this is a big opportunity for them to improve their games and garner some exposure.
Walthall is in a similar boat in that he was behind some upperclassmen last year on a very good Moorhead team. There are a couple guards from Moorhead playing with the top 16U team as well, so the Spuds could be in a nice spot here for the next couple years.
Forwards: Ben Manson, Emmet Kenney, Matt Anderson, Zach Haas
Manson and Anderson didn’t play varsity last year for West Fargo Sheyenne and Jamestown but both could be a guys who take big steps forward in their upperclass years. Both teams were really strong and loaded with talented seniors.
Kenney played sparingly with Fargo Shanley last year and showed off a solid shooting stroke and playmaking skills. He might not be a featured offensive player on this team – or Fargo Shanley for the next year or so – but he brings value in that he can do a lot of things well.
Haas is in a similar boat in that he played very little for the Bismarck St. Mary’s varsity roster but could be a guy who sees a big jump in minutes and in usage next winter. This is a big summer for him getting a chance to against opposing quality big men.
