2020 Rankings: Barely Missed the Cut

2020 Rankings: Barely Missed the Cut

This rankings update increased the 2020 rankings from 80 kids to 100 but there are realistically dozens more who could be ranked. Some already ranked kids were taken off the list because they quit their high school teams this season and will likely rejoin the rankings once they return to their teams next season or even transfer. Here's a look at several players who barely missed the cut on this rankings update.

Tyler Rice, Anderson County - The leading scorer for Anderson County narrowly missed this update and could crack the list with a good spring AAU season. Rice needs to do more than score to affect the game but he's a good scorer who hits from 3 at a 41% clip and could have a strong AAU year with the Lexington ICE.

Mason Sullivan, Marion County - Sullivan averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Knights but he has yet to crack our list because his primary sport is football. As we outlined in a previous article, when prospects college path isn't the basketball court, we tend to mark them down unless they're a stud in both sports (like Reese Smith for example).

KJ Tucker, Scott County - Tucker suffers from the fact that he attends Scott County. At most schools in Kentucky, Tucker would have started varsity for two years by now but he only saw varsity action in 20 games as a Senior and was primarily a JV Star this year. With the losses to graduation, look for Tucker to have a starting role for SC next season.

Jacob Mann, Bullitt Central - Mann was the leading scorer and second leading rebounder for the Cougars this season and will likely draw some small college looks this AAU season, assuming he plays somewhere. Mann is a volume scorer but does a little bit of everything on the court.

Jake Evans, Male - Evans is a point guard for the Bulldogs but he doesn't get anywhere near the pub that Tyren Moore, Howard Fleming and Noah Courtney get in their Junior class. After scoring 9 points per game as a Junior, Evans could actually be the key to getting Male to Rupp Arena next season.

Michael Collis, Kentucky Country Day - Collis is the leading scorer and second leading rebounder for the KCD squad, the only concern with Collis is that he's not a great shooter. Putting up shooting splits of 43/25/75 isn't great and the poor three point shooting is especially concerning. With a big summer and Senior season ahead, Collis needs to be in the gym working on his jumper.
