PHD Playoff Central: Opening Night (SD)
The pigtail/first round of Regional play gets started tonight and with it comes PHD Playoff Central.
PHD Playoff Central. Throughout our network in the various states of the Prep Hoops Network we love to bring you the big playoff games, the big match-ups on the floor, the players putting together big performances, and finally we love to honor players that may have had their careers ended but that career was outstanding.
South Dakota playoffs are still a few days from hitting a feverish pitch but tonight the initial games of Class B playoffs are being played around the state
The Big Stage. Three playoff games in the same location, the top spot to watch basketball in South Dakota this evening.
Webster High School hosts three Region 1A games today tipping off moments ago. Florence/Henry plays Great Plains Lutheran in the 6/11 game, Langford faces Wilmot in the 7/10 contest, and the always competitive 8/9 game is Waubay/Summit vs Waverly South Shore.
Upset City. No upsets in the playoffs yet (no playoff games yet!) but Brookings did get their 6th win of the season over ranked Huron this past weekend. Drew Cole and Trevor Woodall are seniors that led the way scoring a combined 30 points. Woodall had a clutch three and the game clinching defensive play late while Drew Cole had a clutch three in the final minute. The biggest play of the game came from senior Jay Wilber who had a steal and three that was the game winning basket.
Players to Watch. Travis Hass is a 6-foot-2 senior at Sunshine Bible Academy. Alex Tammen of Chester Area is a 5-foot-8 guard leading his team against O-RR this evening. Kaleb Darrow of Edgemont leads his team versus Crazy Horse. Wynn Schaack leads Wall as their 6-foot-4 numbers producer when they play Underwood.
Hat Tip to the Career. This will commonly be the spot we honor a top player who no longer has a spot in the playoffs but deserves recognition for a great career.
