Hustle Region Preview: Select Select High Academic
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hustle Region and here’s a look at Seattle Select High Academic.
Seattle Select High Academic will have a team in the 17U division of the Hustle Region. They will be participating in the #HustleSzn Kickoff, Bash in the Desert, and Hustle Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with program director and head coach Chase Young.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I started the Seattle Select High Academic basketball program 4 years ago after running another AAU program for 10 years prior. We identify the top student-athletes in the NW and help promote them to high academic D1-D3 colleges.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
Our goals are helping more NW players play at the highest academic schools possible. Whether that be DI Ivy League schools such as Yale, Princeton and Harvard or DIII SCIAC schools such as Caltech, Occidental and Pomona.
What is your program’s mission each year?
Besides improving our players’ skills and abilities, our goal every year is to help give each of our players exposure along with multiple offers and acceptance to high academic colleges from around the country. We participate in WCE High Academic Camps as well as Yale’s Elite camp to get them exposure to more East Coast schools and also organize college tours to the NWC and SCIAC colleges.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
We are looking forward to the LA kick off, Phoenix Bash in the Dessert and the Hustle Regional Finals in LA.
