Continue ReadingThe recent snow storms have put the postseason on hold and is causing quite a controversy among teams and fans. With no exact date set for when game will continue, teams are waiting to say how they will format the playoffs and which teams will be allowed to participate. This article will be focusing on the best games of the year (that I saw.) Games that went down to the wire, upsets and games that determined playoff seeding. With conference tournaments being cancelled and more games possibly being cancelled due to weather, these games carried more weight then originally anticipated.
Marysville Pilchuck @Edmonds- Woodway
December 12th2018
Final Score: 55-53, MPHS
In a 3A Wesco matchup that previewed two of its best players, Mutdung Bol and RaeQuan Battle. In just the second Wesco conference game of the season, these teams were put to the test early. The game was won at the buzzer by Marysville’s Battle who ended up with 43 points and 20 rebounds. This might be the states best performance this season in one of its best games. Since this game, Marysville is 13-0 (this was the second win of their 15 game winning streak.) Edmonds Woodway is 10-4 since their loss to the Tomahawks. This could easily been seen as the turning point in both their seasons.
January 8th2019
Final Score: 69-63 2OT, ECHS
The battle between the the two catholic programs turned out to a double overtime thriller. Both teams were compromised due to injury, O’Dea was without 5star big man Paolo Banchero and Eastside without star point guard Nolan Hickman. Despite the absence, both teams competed like their seasons were on the line. O’Dea at the time had dropped three straight games coming into the game as they were looking for a big win to turn their season around. Senior guard Noah Williams lead the Fighting Irish with 25 points, including all eight of their overtime points. Even though Williams big night, the crusaders outlasted the Fighting Irish down the stretch. While O’Dea is undefeated since this loss, this was the game that could have carried a lot of weight down the stretch.
January 18th2019, Senior Night
Final Score: 58-57, RHS
In a game that would determine the 4thseed in Metro, Roosevelt came ready to play and outplayed the Wildcats on their senior night. A back and forth affair that came down to the wire, a perfect illustration of the competition that lies in the Metro League. The roughriders were lead by senior wing Kyle Luttinen who had 21 points and knocked down 5 three balls. Maui Sze controlled the game from start to finish, putting up 16 points and 10 assist. Looking back, this game meant a lot because both team finished with the same record but Roosevelt holds the tie breaker so they claim the 4thseed.
