The Wolverines avenged their loss earlier in the season by recording a compelling 72-51 win over the Clippers. Here we recap this highly anticipated contest by highlighting five takeaways.
JONES CONTINUES TO IMPRESS
Sincere Jones has been a steady presence at the point for Potomac this season, and he was once again a standout last night. The unsigned senior, who came off the bench in this game, made an impact on both ends as soon as he checked into the game and continued to do so throughout the evening. Jones pumped in 18 points and showcased an impressive skill set to go along with good body control, strength, and the ability to finish through contact.
CRAWFORD THE X-FACTOR
2020 forward Elijah Crawford is so much fun to watch. Listed at 6-foot-3, Crawford plays much bigger as a result of his long limbs and is an exceptional defender both on the perimeter and in the paint. The athletic junior scored an efficient 11 points and contributed with several deflections, blocks, and steals.
DYCHES DEVELOPING
Corey Dyches has arguably been the best player for the Wolverines this season, and is a good bet to give the fans a show with his high flying antics each night. Recently, there have been noticeable improvements to his jump shot, and we saw more of the same during this game. Dyches led all scorers with 22 points, and continues to add to his overall game.
CLIPPERS FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT
2020 prospects Ron Polite, Mike Sumner, and Malik Holland each showed signs last night, but its clear they all have yet to reach their full potential. Polite, a 6-foot-1 floor general with length and incredible feel, is still growing into his body and adding strength. Sumner, a 6-foot-3 playmaking guard who is one of the better passers you will find in the local junior class, is yet to hit really his stride in a Clippers uniform. Holland, the lesser known of the three, is a 6-foot-3 wing who excels as a spot up shooter. As these three continue to gain experience and develop together, they should pose a serious threat down the road for opponents.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
After the game, players from Potomac mentioned that Oxon Hill was by far the toughest team they’ve faced this year. Last night was somewhat of an aberration, but we’ve got a feeling that these two teams will be among the state’s elite come playoff time.
