Though ranked #144 in the Class of 2019, Ogelsby plays with an uncommon strength. Standing 6-foot-5 he rebounds very well and primarily operates under the tin. Acclimating to college wing might be mandatory; however, Division III teams can utilize a 6-foot-5 beast on the blocks.
Sean Ogelsby was asked directly to expand about each college currently competing for his signature. There is no particular order and he has no finalists or “top 3.”
ETSU
East Tennessee State University is an interesting school for Sean Ogelsby.
On the surface they feel like a preferred walk-on situation.
“That hasn’t been fully discussed through via phone, but will be discussed when I go up for a visit here soon,” said Ogelsby January 23rd. “It has just been a lot of scheduling conflict with their season and ours.”
Leading the recruitment, and essentially the campus visit planning, is East Tennessee State University Graduate Assistant Bryan Forbes.
“After the camp Coach Forbes, the GA, has been talking to me through text and we are trying to set up a visit so I can come to one of their home games.”
ETSU just has four home games left (Mercer, Wofford, Citadel, and Western Carolina).
They are the primary D1 team invested in Sean though at this point and that carries weight.
“And what I like about ETSU is that, one it’s not far from home so that makes it easier for my family to come to games and the campus is very nice and I like coach Steve Forbes’ demeanor and his coaching strategy,” said Ogelsby. “And how he has turned their basketball program around and I really enjoy watching them play and I’ve also played with some of their new players before.
Walters State
Walters State Community College (15-6, 6-3) is a junior college based in Morristown, Tennessee. Walters State aggressively recruits in Tennessee. Current starters include: Deonte Davis (Cleveland), Kendall Winston (Hunters Lane), Demontay Dixon (Summit), Miles Thomas (South Doyle).
Maybe Sean Ogelsby we be a Walters State starter as soon as next fall.
“What I like about Walter State is [it is] also not far from home and Coach (Bill) Carlyle has been following my progress and also coached my cousin, Trey Suttles,” said Ogelsby. “So we have somewhat of a connection and also I know one of the players on that team as well, Kajuan Hale.”
Hale is performing excellently for Walter State: 15.6 ppg on 48.5% shoooting, 7.0 apg, 82.4 ft%.
Bryan College
Bryan College is one school that maintains regular contact with senior Sean Ogelsby.
“What I like about Bryan college is Coach Bryan Lawhon has been following me for quite sometime as well, but he is more than just a coach for me,” said Ogelsby. “He knows how I lost my dad back in 2017 and how big of a deal that is and he has built a bond with me about it and keeps in contact with me but also small nice campus, the basketball team is very social and I also know some of the players on the team and played with some of them as well.”
Alcorn State
Alcorn State is also a Division I basketball program.
“One, it’s out of state so it’s different but I also like the coaching staff,” said Sean Ogelsby.
“Even though most of their coaching staff is new, they are still great coaches.”
NC Wesleyan
“I like how they stay in contact with me and send mail to my house every now and then,” shared Ogelsby. “They were the first people to ever interact with me. The campus is very nice and clean.”
Options abound. Again, these are not finalists. They are current contacting institutions. Coaching staffs exhibiting interest now are pretty solid bets. The ETSU level of interest is absolutely worth following.
