Continue ReadingWith the new format to the season, we are looking to do more full on player breakdowns. They will come on Fridays and Sundays. This version is our full-week breakdown with games from Monday to Saturday. This week I watched Frankton vs. Pendleton Heights and Chatard vs. Guerin Catholic.
Kayden Key – 6’1 SG – 2019 – Frankton
Key is a really solid shooting guard who has the ability to rattle off a few baskets in a row. High IQ player who moves well without the ball. A little bit of a funky shot release, but it works for him. He’s a guy who will be good at the next level as he moves off the ball. Solid off of the catch but can also drive the ball and score at the rim. Committed to Olivet Nazarene.
Rylan Detling – 6’7 PF – 2019 – Frankton
Detling really impressed me in this one. He was aggressive going to the basket and was able to finish pretty solidly. Was able to take it off the bounce from the perimeter and finish at the rim. Pretty athletic finisher but needs to become a touch tougher down low.
Brayton Cain – 5’11 PG – 2019 – Frankton
Cain ran with the ball really well in transition and is a good ball handler. He is aggressive going to the rim and looks to score the ball when he gets into the paint. Facilitates the offense well from the guard spot. Gritty performance from him.
Jon Hatzell – 6’1 SG – 2019 – Frankton
Hatzell is another one of those guards for Frankton. He is a really tough player who goes after every rebound as soon as the ball hits the rim. Brings just a bit of scoring and can shoot it from the outside. Solid frame will allow him to handle mismatches physically in the post.
Christian Jones – 6’0 SG – 2019 – Pendleton Heights
Jones is a bigger bodied guard who gets into the lane well. Most of his points today came from getting into the paint and being fouled. Aggressive driver of the ball which allows him to get to the line at a high clip. Needs to work on his athleticism a little bit because he had just a bit of trouble on defense.
Tristan Ross – 6’5 PF – 2020 – Pendleton Heights
Ross is a strong interior forward who can take the ball off of the dribble from the perimeter. Ross is a guy who also has the ability to corral a ton of rebounds with all of his strength. Didn’t really show the ability to shoot the ball in this one but I think that he has that in his repertoire with how the shot looked,
Damieon Warrum – 6’5 SF – 2019 – Pendleton Heights
Warrum was the key player for Pendleton in this one as he provided a much-needed spark off of the bench. He was able to get the ball in the basket as Pendleton was struggling to score the ball. Needs to work on his jumper but should be able to develop a little at a small college.
Davrick Black – 5’8 PG – 2021 – Pendleton Heights
Black is a small lead guard who is able to get into the rim and make plays happen. Needs to work on his shot a lot as Frankton left him on the perimeter not guarded. Missed a few wide open 3-pointers and if he can start hitting those, he could become a really solid lead guard since he facilitates so well.
Kian Sills – 6’1 SG – 2019 – Guerin Catholic
Sills can really shoot the ball. He struggled just a little bit to find his shot and create for himself, but he is a bouncy guard who can get it off without much space. Thin prospect who will need to gain a little strength at the next level but I think the scoring will carry over. Committed to Anderson.
Matthew Gillis – 6’5 PF – 2021 – Guerin Catholic
Gillis was pretty active down low in this one. He was physical and used his strength to make space and grab rebounds. Had a touch of foul trouble but still played very solidly. Adds a bit of scoring, which I think he will be able to expand as he adds skill.
Noah Carter – 5’9 PG – 2021 – Chatard
Carter is a small guard who is very quick. He sets the offense up well and never stops moving on the offensive end. Carter is a guy who could be a solid small school pick-up if he grows just a bit more and adds a little more scoring into his repertoire.
Edreece Redmond – 6’ SG – 2020 – Chatard
I liked the frame that Redmond has, but I thought that he forced it just a little bit through this one. Has good handles and at the next level I think he will end up playing that combo guard role. There’s upside here, just wasn’t the game I wanted to see from him.
Cooper Lewis – 6’3 SG – 2020 – Chatard
Lewis can really shoot the ball. Has deep range and the ability to get hot quickly. More of a perimeter guard who won’t take it off of the bounce that often. I liked his ability to get his shot off quickly, but would have liked to seen more. I think he could be a sneaky good college player in the right system.
