Hustle Region Preview: KC Hoopers
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hustle Region and here’s a look at KC Hoopers.
KC Hoopers will have teams in 17U, 16U, 15U, and 14U divisions of the Hustle Region and will be at the #HustleSzn Kickoff, Hustle in the Sun, and the Hustle Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with KC Hoopers program director Omar Moncayo.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
I started my program because I was coaching in the city league and some of my kids wanted to continue playing basketball. Once I started the program I realized that a lot of kids were looking for an outlet and the program would help reach at risk kids and keep them from going down the wrong path. We’ve been around for about 6 years now. We started off with 2 teams and now we have over 6 teams.
What is the goal of your program for 2019? What is your program’s mission each year?
Our goal for 2019 is to continue to improve as a program and as individuals. We want or kids to succeed on and off the basketball court and especially in the classroom.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
You should keep an eye out for Lapries Harris-Jones he’s a junior G/F very athletic can do a little bit of everything and plays very good defense. Josiah James he’s another athletics G/F can run an offense plays really good defense. Izaac Martinez is a sophomore G can shoot the 3 ball and is a natural scorer at only 14 years old he plays well above his age.
Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
I choose the Prep Hoops Circuit because after talking to one of the directors and getting info about the circuit it seemed like a good way to get my boys some exposure and have them face some of the best players in their age group.
