Hustle Region Preview: Fuego
We may be in the middle of high school basketball season but it’s not too early to look ahead to what’s coming up on the AAU circuit. Over the next few months we will be taking a look at the teams that will be participating in the PrepHoops Circuit Hustle Region and here’s a look at Fuego out of Washington.
Fuego will have teams in 17U, 16U, and 13U divisions of the Hustle Region and will be at the Spring Kickoff, #HustleSzn Kickoff, Battle in the Desert, and the Hustle Region Finals.
Here’s a transcript of a conversation we had with Fuego head coach Deon Davis.
Why did you start your program? How long have you been around?
Fuego started in 2016 but all the coaches had been in programs 10 plus years prior to that. The reason for starting the program was to really gear it towards fundamentals and development at young ages.
What is the goal of your program for 2019?
The goal of our program in 2019 is to keep stressing development at the youth level and gain more exposure at the high school level for our kids.
What is your program’s mission each year?
To empower youth through basketball, to become better leaders, decision makers, and productive team players on and off the basketball court.
Do you know of any players that will be back in your program this year? Who should we have our eye on?
U-16
Laphonso Thomas 5’10 2021/pg – fast and shifty, good floor leader, strong defender.
Tony Rourke 6’0 2021/sg – shooter, long range, strong defender.
Isaiah Handley 6’4 2021/wing – good rebounder, nice midrange, post game.

Why did you choose the Prep Hoops Circuit?
We want our teams to have the opportunity to play on a national level!
