Overview:
At the end of all of this, the small forward group in 2021 could really end up surprising some people. They don’t have the flash or anyone in the Top 5 of the class right now but this group is talented and deep. At the top right now, Luke Goode and Douglas “JR” Konieczny Jr. are continuing to get better and fight for the top spots in the class. Goode, a Homestead (IN) native, already has a Big Ten offer and could see more. Konieczny from South Bend St. Joseph (IN) has offers from Miami (OH) and Valparaiso. HSE’s Landon Morris has gotten better and throughout the Top 10 at the position, there are guys that could draw some DI interest at some point.
The size of this group is solid but we fully expect some to grow a ton more. Guys like Jermaine Woods Jr. and Owen Dease are two that stand out and that could completely change their outlook. This group also has quite a bit of shooting ability. JR Konieczny, Aidan Booher, Andrew Carlton, and Luke Goode are among some of the best shooters in the class.
With 26 players loaded into this position for these rankings, we have enough players to really show depth for all levels, especially DII and NAIA who should have a number of different styles to choose from. But, those players at the top have the talent to land some DI interest and surprise by their play both in high school and college.
New Additions:
We have added 7 new players to this group who were not ranked previously. We also have three guys that moved positions into the small forward spot. So that is 10 of the 26 that are new this time around. The highest of those who are new to our rankings is Owen Dease. The Evansville Reitz (IN) wing was very impressive against University Heights (KY) when we were down at the Bosse Classic. Already standing 6’5 and not looking like he is going to stop growing, Dease has skill and shooting ability with guard skills that should keep him on the wing. His combination of skills and size is impressive and likely going to get better. We have also added Devean Franklin, Styles McCorkle, Jack Futa, Parion Roberson, Coleman Slater, and Thomas Latham.
Stock Risers:
Looking into Stock Risers for this group, the best is Landon Morris who jumped up 35 spots in the overall rankings and 6 spots to get to #3 in the position rankings. He’s a guy that didn’t play AAU last year and so we didn’t get to see him between before his freshman season and this high school season. It was tough to rank before but now he looks like he’s among the best in the state. Good size at 6’5 and enough skill to be a mix between an interior and wing scorer. Crispus Attucks (IN) wing Donavon Barnett is another one that has moved up as he’s now #9 in the position moving up five spots.
