PrepHoopsIllinois covered all 12 games of the two day Team Rose Shootout over the weekend at Mt. Carmel High School.  Mike Oliver and Jerrel Oliver run a great event with many of the top city and suburban teams in the Chicago area.  We have evaluations on all the prospects in the house.  This is our 2020 Evaluations Part 2!

PG Adam Miller (Morgan Park)

The state’s top 2020 prospect had his moments of brilliance against Bloom.  The junior is a shot creator that loves the deep pull up three.  He regularly made them in this contest as he was trying to bring his team back.  At his size of 6’4” he has the ability to shoot it over almost all defenders.  Also a dynamic driver that slices and dices through defenses.  He went for 31 points.

PG Marcus Watson (Morgan Park)

Watson is a slick handling point guard that is equally adept to pass or score.  He did both effectively against Bloom.  The southpaw threw several outstanding passes for dimes.  Pushes the tempo especially in transition always having his head up looking to make a play.  As a scorer he is so fast end to end with his speed and short area quickness.  Like what he brings to the table defensively with active hands and ability to turn steals into buckets on the other end.  He scored 17 points.

PF Isaiah Burrell (Morgan Park)

Burrell is an undersized four in the mold of his older brothers with the high energy he plays with.  At times he can get under the other teams skin.  Active rebounder that flies around getting offensive boards.  He had 6 points.

SG Destin Whitaker (Romeoville)

Whitaker is a two guard that went from one of the guys last year to “the guy” this season.  He is starting to emerge into a go to scorer on the perimeter.  The 6’5” junior is a plus shooter from three as he connected on a trio from deep.  Consistent balance and form on the shot.  Also a quality athlete that can get out and finish above the rim.  Wiry strength and bounce off the ground.  Ability to check multiple positions.  He had 18 points.

SG Zach Gibson (Romeoville)

Gibson is a wing that has a strong body.  What he is best at is rebounding in traffic.  He was outstanding against Mt. Carmel on the glass securing double digit boards.  Physical wing that is a decent passer too.

F Arinzechukwu Egbuna (Mt. Carmel)

This 6’5” combo forward flashed potential for Mt. Carmel.  The junior has strength and athleticism.  A bit of a slow release on his shot, but he did hit from mid-range showing a soft touch on it.  Finishes well around the hoop.  Still a bit raw, but like this kid’s upside.  He had 8 points.

PG Jack Kahoun (Oswego)

Kahoun has been a consistent player throughout his career that flies a bit under the radar in the loaded 2020 class of lead guards.  Smooth and high IQ guard that is a shot maker.  Did just that connecting on an array of jumpers for 12 points.

C Connor McCance (Oswego)

McCance is a big bodied post that is hard to move on the interior.  Excels when he anchors down low and uses a hook shot or power move to score inside.  Got on the offensive glass for a put back.  Went for 6 points.

PF Kendale Anderson (Leo)

Anderson is a broad shouldered post that plays with a high-motor.  Wasn’t as productive as usual, but part of that might have been that his brother was so dominant inside.  Did hit a mid-range jumper.  Went for 4 points.

PF Seryee Lewis (Kenwood)

Lewis is the top 2020 post prospect in the PHI rankings.  This 6’7” four man is a big time athlete with springy legs.  It was definitely a slow start for Lewis, but he ended up with a solid outing.  His quickness and athleticism around the hoop are what he lives off of.  Sealed his man off in a high/low for a flush.  Also slammed home a monster alley-oop.  Didn’t rebound at as high of a rate as he usually does.  Lewis went for 14 points.

SG Ramean Hinton (Curie)

The #5 overall prospect in the PHI 2020 rankings didn’t have a huge game, but was solid.  High-motor guard that is a plus athlete.  He is a slasher that gets to the rim and is a big time player in transition.  Quality rebounder from the wing.  He had 6 points.

PG Abnar Muhammad (De La Salle)

Muhammad is a compact lead guard that is a perimeter shooting threat.  He connected on a pair of threes along with a runner for his 8 points.

SG Josh Holmes (De La Salle)

Holmes is a shooting guard that can score some off the bounce and in the mid-range.  Best in a more structured game where he can move off the ball to get open and shoot threes.  This game was so loose it was hard for him to get going.  Still a D1 caliber prospect.  He had 7 points.
