North Dakota Class B Teams of the Week – December 10-15
The season is young, but there have already been a number of teams with resume-boosting wins. There haven’t been too many surprises early in the season but with a wealth of talent spread all over the state, there are good teams in every corner of every region. With that in mind, there are always opportunities for good wins and strong weeks. Here are a couple teams that pieced together strong weeks:
Four Winds/Minnewaukan
The Indians picked up a pair of wins over ranked Class B teams last week, beating Beaulah and Oak Grove on back-to-back nights Friday and Saturday. Four Winds plays an absolutely brutal schedule, so I’d expect the Indians to take a few losses at some point, but with the teams they’ve beaten, they are without doubt, a top-five team in Class B right now.
Rugby
The Panthers kicked off their season in style, going 3-0 in the CNDC tournament, picking up quality wins over New Rockford/Sheyenne and Dunseith. TGU, a team Rugby beat in the first round of the tournament, is 6-1 on the season while New Rockford and Dunseith are both top 15-20 teams in Class B. The Panthers play a very tough schedule this winter and will have a lot of opportunities to pick up quality wins. They look like a top-10 team in Class B.
Velva
Velva rebounded nicely from a season-opening loss the previous week to pick up three wins in a host tournament over Glenburn, Surrey and Underwood. It remains to be seen how those teams will turn out but all three look improved from last year at this point. The Aggies will certainly be tested going forward but a 3-1 start is encouraging.
