North Dakota Class A Games to Watch: December 24-29

The Holiday season is here which means good basketball tournaments and events. Most of the Class A teams don’t play in any holiday tournaments so it’s mostly business as usual. Some of the top teams in Class A don’t play at all over the holiday break but there are still some intriguing matchups this week. Here are some games to watch for:
Minot vs. Jamestown – Friday, Dec. 28
Jamestown’s destruction of contenders in the WDA has a chance to continue Friday as the Bluejays head to Minot for a bout with the Magicians. This should be their toughest test to date as Minot has elite talent and experience with Jaxon Gunville and Alex Schmike in the backcourt. The Bluejays are getting all-state kind of play from Boden Skunberg and Mason Walters plus good complementary production elsewhere. That should be a really good one as both teams have state tournament potential.
Fargo South vs. Grand Forks Red River – Friday, Dec. 28
This one features two teams in that fat middle class of the EDC. Both seem to be playing solid ball with two straight wins and both are certainly capable of staying in that second tier in the league. Kiir Mabor is one of the best players in the state for the Bruins while the Roughriders have a very good junior class led by guard Brady Dvorak and a stud sophomore Will Obioha.
Devils Lake at Wahpeton – Saturday, Dec. 29
This one doesn’t feature two teams that figure to contend for a top spot in the EDC or anything but Devils Lake certainly has a chance to earn a top-four spot in the league and compete for a playoff spot down the road. The Firebirds are 4-3 on the season with a really good win over West Fargo mixed with a couple of puzzing losses. They get Wahpeton, a team that is better than its 1-4 record. The Huskies have played teams tough early in the year and should continue to get better as the season goes along.
