Conference Commentary
Top Ten
Teams that are in the Top 10 of the State in 4A
Crispus Attucks – This Attucks group will be solid once again as they reboot from a large senior class graduating. But, looking ahead they are deep at every spot on the floor with backcourt options with Tyran Lewis, Harold Bennett, and transfer Sincere McMahon. Jaiquan Edwards, Jaylen Carson, Donavon Barnett, Wesley Williams, and Warren Williams will give you size but the key is they all can run and play fast. Should be a Top team in the state for 3A and overall.
Top Ten Potential
Teams that could be in the Top 10 of the State in 4A
Danville – Danville will really miss the toughness and dominance of Alec Burton but I think it changes their program for the better to improve some of the pieces they have that are coming up. Connor Jones can handle more offense and Dillon Ware can create that mismatch a bit in the post. Comer, if he can get hot, could provide a ton of offense. They have the pieces but need to see what they look like because this won’t be the last few years.
Brebeuf Jesuit – Brebeuf is in a spot where they lost a ton of key pieces including Miami (OH) player Myja White. But, they have a trio of guards that should lead the way as seniors in Max Chaplin, Simon Banks, and Spencer Reist. Might be a new look for their offense and likely a lot more shooting. Should compete as a top program all year long and likely Top 5 contender in the state if all goes well.
Compete With Most
Teams that could be well above .500 this Season
Edgewood – The return of Joe Kido and Trevor Taylor gives Edgewood a combo that should be really impressive. Taylor was one of the most productive freshman in the state last year and this will be his team moving forward with Kido the ultimate setup lead guard, hopefully making those in the lineup better from top to bottom.
Indianapolis Manual – Manual is missing a ton of players from a year ago but now they have some guys that will get a chance to step up. Jalen Johnson is the guy to watch as he was dominant at times but also Montez McNair, Caleb Redman, and Willie Hankston. Will be an up and down year, likely, with all the new guys and new roles but the upside is there to beat some top teams.
Rebuilding
Teams that were good last year but could struggle this Season
Tri-West – For Tri-West, they have been the best version of themselves from the last four years with Logan Blake and Tyler Watson leading them. Now, they will reload a bit as they search for new avenues of offense. Those two outgoing seniors were so much of the team, it is hard to see who will take the reigns right now.
Cardinal Ritter – This Cardinal Ritter team is missing some key pieces with Shelby Turner and Miles Tracy now graduated and Nehemiah Jones transferring out. But, they bring back Nate Soltis, Dan Bayler, Marlon Anderson, and Joey Gruber could be a solid core to compete this season.
Southmont – Southmont has had quite a four year run and found some mild success but now they will likely struggle a bit with the loss of Cam Chadd and Ty Williams, together they averaged 26.8 points per game. Now, it is Justin Howard’s team but there isn’t much proven beyond him.
