Conference Commentary
Top Ten
Teams that are in the Top 10 of the State in 2A
Indianapolis Howe – Howe is going to hurt a little bit losing their top guys from a team last year that won 19 games but came up a little short losing to Shenandoah. However, their backcourt of Tony Truth and Kycia Washington is going to allow them to play fast and fierce and that should give them enough offense to spell any concerns about them reloading.
Top Ten Potential
Teams that could be in the Top 10 of the State in 2A
Monrovia – While Monrovia is going to miss a few key seniors, there are two big pieces back in Josh Smith and Max Newman. Those two will put up a ton of points this year and create mismatches at the 2A level that should get them a few more wins than their talent might normally provide. This could be a big year for this team.
Shenandoah – Shenandoah is a solid group who did lose a lot but has proven over the years that they are going to reload time and time again. Losing Kinsey, Myers and other hurts but bringing back Colton Monday, Peyton Starks, Jake Kinsey, and Kaden McCollough should be a good, very young core to lead them forward.
Compete With Most
Teams that could be well above .500 this Season
Heritage Christian – Heritage Christian is sitting in a good spot. Scecina is now a shell of themselves and they were the one team that could cause them a lot of problems in the past. Now, they bring back Andrew Williams and Harrison Eckel as well as a good chunk of their roster. Could be their year to break through and could compete well in this Regional.
Park Tudor – This Park Tudor team could be a sneaky good one this year. They were so, so young the last couple of years and now with a head coach who is familiar with the Indianapolis area, and the talent having grown up a bit, this team could be a sneaky pick to win the Regional with Ronald Johnson, Tristan Bufkin, and Kadaphi Honaker.
Rebuilding
Teams that were good last year but could struggle this Season
Indianapolis Scecina – Scecina is going to be a whole new team for a few different reasons. With their graduating senior class and outgoing head coach, not many pieces are left. Kobe Clancy, Makylin Brown, Jeff Sultzer, and Cobie Dillard all graduated and Manuel Brown has transferred out. Cupboard is a little bare right now.
Eastern Hancock – Last season was a great one for Eastern Hancock but they are graduating everything including their leader in Addison True. That is now their top 7 scorers. They may lose more than any other team in the state. It likely won’t be this year but this year could tell them how long it will be before they get another chance like 2017-18.
Union County – This is a team that went from having 20 wins last season and a great year overall to graduating their top four scorers from last season leaving just Cam Sanford and Denton Shelpler as the only guys with significant playing time but only averaging 10.2 points per game combined. Will be a whole new team and might have to wait a while into the season to see how they look.
