PHI Freshman Showcase: Team 9 Breakdown
The last bit of the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase is coming out over the next few days as we finish up our evaluations for the event. Today, we are looking at Team 9 and those players full breakdowns.
#22 Cole Hatkevich
5’10 PG Penn (IN)
Cole is a small guard with good touch on the jumper but has a little too quick of a release right now. Showed himself as a guy that can drive to setup rather than force the issue of scoring. Saw the court well and made good decisions. Will need some more size or strength but good lead guard prospect.
#56 Christopher Gunn
6’2 SG Hamilton Southeastern (IN)
Gunn is a bigger guard with length and a frame that should grow quite a bit and fill out very well. Tough going at the rim and has the ability to finish against length right now. Upside comes later as he become phsycially developed and can overpower defenders. Solid touch on jumper to round out good offensive skills.
#59 Brendan Wood
6’2 SF Brebeuf Jesuit (IN)
Wood is a big wing who can shoot it really well. Handles the ball well and played in transition quite a bit. Had some good plays in the midrange where he was able to pull-up and shoot on a dime. While being more of a shooter, think his skills will allow him to develop dribble-drive and all-around scoring ability.
#79 Gabriel Gillespie
6’3 SF Andrean (IN)
Gabriel is a big wing with strength to play right now. Was good in transition where he can make plays at the rim. Comfortable on the perimeter and has the toughness to be good defensively. Should still grow a little more and if those handles get a tick better, offense should pick up quick because he’s so much tougher than most right now.
#84 Alex Schaffer
6’4 PF Heritage Hills (IN)
Alex is a big forward who plays more as a post player right now. Was faced up a bit but still more of a paint player. Moves really well and can get up and down the floor and was able to have some plays in transition. Will need to be a bit more assertive but can be a phsyical scorer in the low post if given opportunities.
#19 Reece Marrs
5’10 PG Hebron (IN)
Reece is a solid lead guard with some strength already and a little toughness. He shoots the ball really well and has a good amount of touch beyond the arc. Does well off the catch with a quick release. Will need to become a little more deceptive when driving but does have enough shooting ability to make up for it.
#38 Aaron Pickel
5’11 SG North Putnam (IN)
Pickel is a solid guard with a frame that should grow. Has strength now and showed some defensive ability on guards and wings. Thought he was good when he was closer to the rim where he can play off the boards, rebounding and being phsyical. Will need to find more offense but has some roomo to grow quickly.
#49 Cameron Haffner
6’1 SG Zionsville (IN)
Haffner is a tall guard with some handles and ability to play a tick faster. Rebounds the ball well and can lead a break. Uses his size well to overwhelm defenders and create turnovers. Has that versatility right now that can switch guard to wings. Could get better as jumper becomes a bigger weapon.
#52 Chad Cox
6’1 SG Franklin County (IN)
Chad is a solid, well built guard who showed a solid mid-range pull up. Rebounds the ball well and plays enough in the middle of the floor and takes advantage of his size and strength. Moves really well and made plays with his agility and speed. Once he spreads floor more to the wing, offense could take off.
#69 Kole McIntire
6’3 PF Knox (IN)
Kole is a big forward that feels comfortable on the perimeter where he shot the ball at a high level. Good off the catch and was capable of creating along the arc a bit. Good mix of inside and out and could stay on the wing long term. Tracks the ball off the rim well, just was too far away most times. Move inside more and rebounding could take jump.
