Class 1 Teams to Watch
Here is a look at some of the top Class 1 teams in the Show-Me State:
Eminence: The defending state champions return 6’7″ 2019 Player of the Year Trent McBride along with 2019 twins Levi and Grant Dyer, who lead the play on the perimeter.
Dora: The Falcons return their talented crew of 2021s in 6’1″ bucket-getter Isaac Haney and 5’11” triplets Auston Luna, Bryson Luna and Mason Luna. Dora advanced to the sectional playoffs a year ago.
South Iron: The Panthers have a talented young crew of perimeter players, led by 6’2″ 2021 guard Brock Wakefield along with 5’8″ 2022 point guard Drennin Dinkins and 6’0″ 2022 guard DJ Prater.
Wellington-Napoleon: Coming down from Class 2, Well-Nap will be a factor in Class 1 with the return of excellent all-around guard Trey Shannon, a 2019 who averaged more than 20 points a game during his career.
Winston: The Cardinals return a pair of All-District guards in 2019s Jacob Lewis and Cy Uthe from a team that won a district championsihp.
Risco: The Tigers return one of the top shooting guards in Southeast Missouri in 5’10” 2019 Nathan Burnett, who averaged 20 points a game last season.
Jefferson: The Eagles will be led by 6’5″ 2020 forward Chase Farnan, who was an All-District selection a year ago.
Lakeland: The Vikings won a district championship a year ago and return their top player in 6’4″ 2021 forward Rafe Kalberloh.
Green City: The Gophers return 6’1″ All-State 2019 guard Devin Fields from a district championship team. Fields averaged more than 25 points a game as a junior.
St. Elizabeth: The Hornets return a solid group, led by 6’6″ 2020 forward Ross Struemph.
Weaubleau: The Tigers won 19 games last season and return top scorer Cameron Ott along with Chase Ratliff and Caden Kauffman.
SW Livington: The Wildcats won 20 games a year ago and return one of the top young forwards in NW Missouri in 6’5″ 2020 Mack Anderson.
Mound City: The Panthers return their top two players in 5’11” 2019 guard Dylan Marrs and 6’2″ 2021 Landon Poppa.
Meadville:The Eagles return a pair of All-District performers in 2020s Dillon Seckington and Jordan Schmitz.
Scott County Central: The Braves are always a factor in Class 1 regardless of talent level or whoever has graduated from the lineup.
Walnut Grove: Several top kids have graduated from a team that went to three consecutive Final Fours. The top returning player is 6’2″ 2019 guard Dawson Meinders.
Northwestern:The Eagles return a pair of good guards in 5’8″ 2020 Wade Adams and 5’11” 2019 Jaden Humphrey.
