The 2018/19 basketball season is less than a month away. The excitement is starting to build and the state of South Dakota is filled with basketball talent. Every week there will be a must see matchup between two schools with marquee players going head to head. A lot of these players have spent countless hours in the gym this past summer, improving for this season.
There is a handful of players that are able to put on a show each night they step on the floor. You are not going to want to miss these guys. Check out our “Most Exciting” players to watch for the 2018/19 season.
1. Matthew Mors – Yankton
Mors is a High Level D1 talent. He led the Yankton Bucks to a Class AA State Championship this past season and is looking to repeat. In only his sophomore year, Mors looks to see even more improvement in his offensive game. This kid is a monster that requires the opposites teams best defenders to slow him down, and that usually isn’t enough to get it done.
2. Noah Freidel – Tea
Freidel is a recent D1 commit. If anybody has the ability to drop 50 points in a game, its this this guy. (His closest is 45) Freidel is one of the best pure scorers in the state and can light it up any given night. He averaged 25.1 ppg last season and will look to improve that average with a another big year. Freidel will be with his running mate Justin Hohn. Together they will look for another chance at a state title in Class A.
3. Jared Jaros – SF Lincoln
Jaros may be the most athletic player on this list. He plays at a fast aggressive pace that is fun to watch as a basketball fan. Not just athletically given, he can also fill the stat line up quick. Jaros will look to have a big recruiting year as he is uncommitted so far.
With a recent video released on twitter, you will see Jaros jump over a person’s back to dunk it. https://twitter.com/LHSHoops/status/1057075967078875136
4. Justin Hohn – Tea
Another D1 commit, Hohn is a fast transition point guard that has an all around skill set. With most of his offseason focused on his offensive game, Hohn will look to put more points on the board himself. (https://prephoops.com/2018/10/offseason-training-report-the-two-headed-monster-in-tea/)
This will be an exciting year for the Tea Titans.
5. (3 Way Tie)
Nick Hoyt – Harrisburg
Hoyt may arguably be the best shooter in the state. He has the ability rattle off four to five 3’s in a row for the Tigers in a span of a couple minutes. The Tigers are looking for another shot for a ring after falling short in last year in the Class AA State Championship game.
Ale Rama – Red Cloud
Rama is a shifty guard that is hard to defend. One of the best scorers in the state, Rama is fun to watch with the ball in his hands. He recently committed to D2 South Dakota School Of Mines.
Sawyer Shultz – Bridgewater-Emery
Sawyer is a an all around good player. His creativeness on offense is fun to watch along with his craftiness on defense. He is a tough competitor that brings energy every time he plays.
