PREVIEWING KC: Top 2019 Point Guards
PREVIEWING KC: Top 2019 Point Guards
With basketball practice a month away, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players to watch this upcoming season, starting with some of the Kansas City area’s premier shooters in the rising senior class.
Lishuwaon Boston, 5’10, G, 2019, Grandview (Team Rush)
Boston is a streaky shooter who is comfortable drawing attention and making plays when opponents have their eyes on him. He is good at finding space off the dribble and can find his way through holes and to the basket or easy points with his pull up jumper next the free throw line.. Boston is still a willing passer. He likes to find the open man and will sacrifice his shot for a teammate with a better look.
Mikel Henderson, PG, 2019, 2019, Lee’s Summit North (KC Spurs)
Henderson is a tough defender who can take on a challenge and come out ahead. He’s extremely active guard who can play with the ball in his hands as well as off the ball. Henderson is an excellent ball handler and his team plays their best ball when he’s on the floor making decisions and rolling from outside. A quality guard with a good head on his shoulders.
Rich Johnson, 5’10, G, Lee’s Summit West (Team Rush)
Johnson is an electric guard with game-breaking speed. He has great control to his game and can fake opponents out and find ways to the basket left and right. He has good range from deep, but prefers high percentage shots near the basket. Because of his speed, he has little trouble getting shots he wants. He can get to the basket and open the floor up as defenders so their best to get in front of him.
Admad Louis, 6’2, G, 2019, Oak Park (Marcus Denmon)
Louis is a score first guard who is great at slashing to the basket and opening up the floor. This allows him to get his shot off when he has the space and find teammates with a better look than him. He brings speed to the floor and has a quick first step and high-arching shot that proves difficult to get a hand on. Louis also competes on defense as his speed translates on both sides of the basket.
Desi Williams, 5’10, PG, Park Hill South (KC Run GMC)
A pass-first point guard who plays his role perfectly as a facilitator, floor general and tenacious on-ball defender. He is a solid ball handler who has the ability to get in the lane and find open teammates. He is fully capable of getting a bucket when he it is needed. Williams has seemingly been a fixture in KC hoops forever and has carved out a reputation as one of the city’s best all-around point guards. He is a solid ball handler, defender and plays with poise and confidence.
