Recruiting Report: Charlie Yoder (2020)
Charlie Yoder – 6’4” | G | SYF Players 2020 | Westview High School
Charlie Yoder is a rapidly improving prospect out of the Northern part of the state. Yoder is a 6’4” shooting guard with the ability to score the ball efficiently at all levels. He joined the AAU scene for the first time this year with the SYF Players and was able to land his first set of offers. Charlie will be returning to the starting lineup at Westview High School where they will look to build on their 28-2 season from last year.
Westview reached Semi-State last season where they fell to eventual State Champions, Oak Hill, 70-64. With most of their scoring and impact players returning, Yoder’s improvements could be the key to taking this team to the next level.
“We competed pretty well. We played against some bigger school this summer and played at Saint Francis, Indiana Wesleyan, Charlie Hughes, a tournament in Goshen, and a tournament up in Wisconsin.” Westview took advantage of the month of June and challenged their guys to step up their game of play.
“I thought that I played pretty well this summer. I scored consistently and rebounded well.” Charlie was an integral piece to the SYF Players roster this past summer. He helped them win 40+ games with only a handful of losses.
As his level of play increased throughout the summer, Charlie landed his first two offers from Northwood University and the University of Saint Francis. He has also started to have a slew of programs reach out to him including the likes of Purdue University, Miami Ohio University, Oregon State University, Ball State University, Butler University and more.
Charlie’s stock sky-rocketed as he proved his ability to score the ball from deep, get to his spots off the bounce, and finish in traffic around the basket.
With the break between AAU and High School season upon us, all prospects are back in the gym and working on their game. Charlie understands what its going to take to elevate his game even higher. “I need to work on my strength.” That was a reoccurring theme during the interview. He has proven his scoring abilities, and with the added length, he has become a mismatch nightmare. The next step for him is all about adding strength to his frame.
“I want to add some athleticism. There is always something to work on and there are a lot of things that I want to work on.” With the SYF Players, Charlie had the opportunity to play against some of the better talent in the Midwest. They faced circuit teams and found themselves playing deep in a few showcase tournaments.
“I’m 6’4” now and feel more comfortable at the shooting guard position.” Yoder is a playmaker with the ball in his hands. He makes all of the guys around him better and never fails to have his foot on the gas. He’s always looking to exploit the defense and find an opening to attack.
With visits planned in October for both Northwood University and the University of Saint Francis, Charlie has started to look ahead to what he wants out of a program at the next level. “A place that’s a good fit and feels like home. I want to have a relationship with the coaches. They should bring out the best in me and I want to help them win.”
Westview has a strong community support and the team plays extremely well together. With Charlie’s expanding impact on games, the team is primed to make a push for the IHSAA Class 2A State Championship this year. Keep an eye on Charlie Yoder of Northern Indiana as he continues to ride the wave that he is on.
