Prospect Spotlight: Kobee Gunter (2019)
Pocatello 6-foot-3 guard Kobee Gunter may not spend his offseasons playing grassroots ball, but he definitely stays in shape.
Gunter is also a track standout and plays football in the fall, those two sports keep him busy during the spring and summer.
He still finds plenty of time to excel on the hardwood though.
“First, I’ve always been a shooter and I’ve always been a spot-up shooter,” said Gunter. “And I can get to the hole and all that too, and this summer I worked more on getting to the hole and trying to finish around the rim.”
He says running track in the spring helps him keep in shape for football in the fall, which in turn prepares him for the winter hoops season.
“Track has helped me a ton with basketball. It’s helped me get my speed and quickness up and down the court, and that’s helped me a lot on defense,” said Gunter. “Also, I jump in track, so it’s helped me a lot with rebounding and that kind of stuff.”
As a junior hoopster, Gunter started at guard for Pocatello. He’ll take on a larger role this season as a senior.
“I think last year we had a pretty good team, but we were really young. I think this next year we’ll be pretty good because we have a lot of experienced guys coming back and that will be really good for us,” said Gunter.
“I think I’ll be like a leader for this group because I’ve had a little bit more experience than some of the other kids.”
For track he’s had a bunch of colleges recruiting him, and he’s been on a couple visits. He’s hoping to see some hoops recruitment in the next six months.
“I’ve not really heard from any basketball coaches yet, that would be pretty cool if I did,” said Gunter.
“I’m really open, I just want to do whatever.”
