Recruiting Report: Sean East (2018)
There are obvious reasons for why New Albany is one of the top contenders for the 4A State Championship this year but one of the biggest is because of senior guard Sean East. The 6’0 guard has really developed into a standout player on of the of the best teams in the state.
As we head into the final few games and his last home game of his career, East is looking at nearing 1,000 career points and has a really good shot to get there by the end of the season barring an early exit in Sectionals.
Over the last year, Sean has become a much better shooter and ball handler. He’s been a very raw skill player but has refined that skill to the point where he’s really dangerous if left open and is getting much, much better off the bounce. He’s attacking more from the top of the key and creating space to get an open shot or pass.
While he’s not really a point guard or a shooting guard, he has the size, length, and scoring ability to make plays and be a difficult matchup. At the next level, depending upon where he ends up, ideally he can play either guard spot and be a high-end offensive player with improving decision making and defense.
Huntington University has already offered the standout senior as have a few junior college programs but things are still very much wide open for East who is looking to finish off his senior year with a second State Championship and more recruiting interest.
He should be getting more. Carrying a very solid GPA and looking into Criminal Justice as a degree, East and his offensive output is still being undervalued quite a bit. A strong finish to the season and a late pull by a college is the most likely scenario and at this level with NAIA and JUCO programs in the mix, he would be a steal.
