Recruiting Report: Cayden Wright (2018)
Currently checking in as Idaho’s 7th-ranked 2018, Skyview’s 6-foot guard Cayden Wright is certainly one of the best available prospects still left in Idaho.
And there’s been one school that has the inside track on him.
“The only real interest I have is from Northwest Nazarene, they’ve reached out to my coach and talked about me going there on a partial scholarship,” said Wright.
The senior guard is young for his grade, and doesn’t turn 18 until May 25th. As a result, he’ll be able to play 17U ball this spring on the grassroots circuit.
“I’m playing for Idaho Select this spring to try and get some more college interest,” said Wright, who also mentioned he has some D3s in Washington reaching out to him.
“Playing at a four-year school would be amazing, that’s been my dream. I’m hoping to achieve that in these next few months.”
Wright will have a great opportunity to showcase himself this week at the state tournament. His Hawks play Moscow Thursday. Wright will showcase his hustle and diverse set of skills in front of the state tourney crowd.
“I can shoot, that’s my strength scoring-wise, is shooting 3-pointers. But, for the most part, I just like to play hard, hustle on defense, be a team player. And I get to the rim occasionally, but for the most part, I just like to shoot it.”
This season, Wright’s role with his team has been to lead, and he’s getting it done production-wise, too, while averaging 13.9 points and five rebounds per game.
“My role is kind of just to be the leader. I try and take good shots, and I lead the team in scoring,” said Wright. “But my role is to just be a leader and help the team succeed; just be a glue guy and be an extension of the coach on the court.”
As for his college hopes. Wright says he’s open to playing anywhere, and is simply looking for the right fit.
“I’d like to play anywhere that will take me and give a good offer,” he said. “My goal is to play college basketball and get some of my school paid for. I’ll keep working on my game and developing as much as I can.”
Wright added: “My goal is to find a program that fits me and find a coach that wants to take me in, and I’ll work hard and make a positive impact on the program.”
