Final Push: District 10AA
District 10AA features the physical seven teams of Nashville Metro. Last spring Maplewood captured the first boys AA State Championship for the division since 1996 (MLK).
Nobody has covered 10AA with the ferocity of PrepHoopsTN this year. Hume-Fogg is the only team we have not covered personally. Stratford, Pearl-Cohn, Whites Creek, Maplewood, MLK, and East Nashville routinely get immersive coverage.
Which teams are best positioned to win the district and/or advance into the playoffs?
1 | East Nashville | 7-0 | 22-0 |
2 | Stratford | 6-2 | 11-5 |
3 | Whites Creek | 4-3 | 12-8 |
4 | Pearl-Cohn | 2-4 | 10-10 |
5 | Hume-Fogg | 2-4 | 5-11 |
6 | Maplewood | 1-4 | 8-5 |
7 | Martin Luther King | 1-5 | 9-9 |
East Nashville has a couple difficult games remaining (Stratford, @ Whites Creek). They would have to lose two just to give Stratford a shot at winning district. If Whites Creek stays hot that could happen.
Whites Creek’s massive win over Stratford this week flipped their entire season outlook. Remember the Cobras won 13 of their final 14 district games last season.
Maplewood’s battle Monday with MLK actually matters despite their poor district records. If Maplewood picks up a few more wins they can challenge for fourth or even third in the standings.
Pearl-Cohn is the one team frustrating with their recent play. The Firebirds have dropped four in a row and the East Nashville pounding revealed some wavering confidence. It is a tough time of year to be questioning your own team and the quick, feisty Firebirds need to regroup instantly.
Stratford, after adding Michael Wallace back to the squad, is built like a gargoyle. Multiple parts of the Spartan body convey danger and impart fear on defenses. Juwon Carpenter, Wallace, Jahari Reed, and Kevonte Boyd all figure out unique ways to threaten defenders. Together they are a handful.
It is hard to bet against East Nashville, but the Spartans boast a powerful blend of skill.
