Ameritime Classic: Wednesday Standouts (2020-21)
Here is a look at some of the top young prospects from the Class of 2020 and 2021 from Wednesday night’s action at the Ameritime Classic at Parkway West.
Jayce Catchings 6’3″ Wentzville Liberty (2020): The talented combo guard scored 18 points in the Eagles’ victory over Parkway Central in the semifinals. What was most impressive about his performance is that he scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and literally took over the team’s offense. He is an excellent 3-point shooter, but he really did a lot of damage attacking the basket off the dribble, especially when the Colts turned up the full court pressure. He either scored on layups or got himself to the free throw line. He’s really grown as a player this season.
Yaya Keita 6’9″ DeSmet (2021): The young big scored 14 points in the Spartans’ victory over Parkway South. With his size, athleticism and body, the sky is the limit for this kid. He moves like a gazelle and plays with a high motor. He rebounds out of his area and blocks shots. When he get the ball down low, he scores with a nice jump hook. The upside is huge as he is just starting to learn the game. He can be special down the road.
Devion Harris 6’6″ Parkway Central (2020): A talented young big who scored eight points in the loss to Wentzville Liberty. He was limited by foul trouble and his absence really hurt the Colts chances. He is long and mobile and can be a problem on the defensive end with his shot blocking. He did most of his damage on offense early with six quick points to get the Colts off to a good start.
Adam Sommer 6’3″ Parkway South (2020): The combo guard scored 11 points in the Patriots loss to DeSmet. He has good size and strength and he uses that to his advantage to ward off those pesky defenders. He likes to take it to the basket aggressively and he also knocked down a couple of 3-pointers off the catch.
Mark Moore 5’8″ Hillsboro (2020): Little guard who scored 10 points for the Hawks against Parkway West. He knocked down a corner 3-pointer and also converted a couple of nice drives to the basket. He was aggressive and fearless in the first half and really gave the Hawks a boost in the first half.
