Scouting Reports: New Albany vs. Carmel
Romeo Langford was in Indianapolis so you knew it would be a great game. Carmel hosted New Albany and the game lived up to the hype. New Albany got off to a slow start but got going in the second quarter. They led at halftime, 21-18. Langford got off to a slow start scoring seven in the first half but turned it on in the second half to lead them to the win. Carmel’s big man John Michael Mulloy fouled out with 4:25 left and the game was effectively over.
New Albany hit free throw after free throw down the stretch to close out the game and Carmel couldn’t hit anything. It was a rather anticlimactic end to a very good game that New Albany took 59-48. View the complete stats here:
Carmel
Cole Jenkins | 6′ PG | 2018
Jenkins was by far the best player for Carmel on this night. He made good decisions with the ball throughout the game and put the ball where he needed to. Jenkins is a strong lead guard who has active hands and good IQ. He will fit in with a small school as a really solid guard. – 17 points, 3 steals
Jalen Whack | 6’2 SG | 2018
Whack is one of the best defenders in the state. He made life really hard for Langford tonight and had a ton of deflections. He isn’t really much on the offensive end, and in college won’t be either but he brings energy on the defensive that no one can really match. Whack was super impressive tonight and really kept Carmel in the game. – 2 points, 1 rebounds, 1 steals
Andrew Owens | 6’5 G/F | 2019
Owens is a really strong player. Primarily playing from the wing, he can put the ball on the floor and drive or he can catch and shoot it. Owens was a bit in the limelight in this game as he sneakily scored his points but still was pretty efficient. He’s a big bodied wing who just keeps getting better and better. A small school guy that will be able to do anything you ask him to. – 10 points, 4 rebounds
John Michael Mulloy | 6’10 C | 2019
Mulloy played a really good game, despite that fact that he was in foul trouble. He picked up two fouls early on and sat on the bench for a bit but in the third and fourth quarter he started to take over. He’s a big strong forward that is getting a little bit better with the ball in his hands. He’s needs to not be so aggressive on defense because the teams need him to play more that 15 minutes a game. – 11 points, 7 rebounds
New Albany
Romeo Langford | 6’5 SG | 2018
It’s weird to say, but tonight was an off night for Romeo. A lot of that was due to the defense by Jalen Whack, who did a tremendous job on Langford. He pressed a bit but still didn’t have any turnovers. He seemed like he wanted to do too much and settling for shots. Was a game what he should have ran the offense and got all of the other guys involved. Still, a solid night and you can tell he’s the cream of the crop. – 19 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks
Sean East | 6’1 G | 2018
East’s stock is continuing to rise. He struggled shooting the ball but wasn’t shy when looking for his shot. He was money at the foul line going a perfect 10/10 with a lot of those coming in crunch time. He’s a quick shifty guard who can really get into the lane and loves his floater, which he makes quite often. A guy who’s going to have his recruiting take off here soon as he received an offer last week from Huntington.– 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist
Trey Hourigan | 6’5 PF | 2020
Hourigan is a role player on this team and he knows it. He understands what he is supposed to do and tonight he played really well. Scored a little bit and rebounded the ball really well. Tonight, he got himself into position to grab the offensive rebound and was a huge key to their success on the boards. A guy who most likely won’t play college basketball unless it’s at the D3 level, but a good role player to have on this team. – 9 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal
Julien Hunter | 6’3 SF | 2020
Hunter wasn’t flashy tonight but he was in the right spots at the right time. He grabbed five offensive rebounds to keep possessions alive and played a solid game. You can really tell that he is starting to come into his own a little because tonight he started to attempt to make plays on his own. Hunter is a really smart player and you can see that with where he was positioning himself on the court. – 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals
