Schafer Leads the Undefeated Demons
Is Bismarck for real? After beating Century 55-53 this week you better believe they are. Senior point Ian Schafer leads a talented and balanced line-up.
“We are very deep and when we play together we defend very well,” Ian said this week after beating Century. Schafer didn’t have his best game on Tuesday but it didn’t matter. Joe Jahner and Tanner Davis combined for 30, Canyon Stonecipher continued a great season nearly earning a triple-double, and Schafer moved the ball and pushed his team to 6-0 on the season.
Coming into the week Ian was the team leader in both scoring and assists but his thinking is above that. Schafer cares about the chemistry and the mindset of the team because if that is right, this Demons team is a state contender.
“When we aren’t making shots and when things go wrong how we will respond to that, if we will stick together through that, we can have a great year,” Ian said.
At 6-0 Bismarck is now headed to their holiday event after the Christmas holiday. Ian has big goals for the event in Wyoming.
“Our goal is to win the Energy Classic in Gillette, Wyoming that we go too every year, and hopefully make all tournament team,” Ian said.
Schafer will bring that mentality to Concordia-Moorhead next season.
