Recruiting Report: Coleton Adamson (2018)
Century’s 6-foot-2 guard Coleton Adamson is a two-sport star still trying to figure out what he might play at the next level, football or basketball.
He’s currently checking in as Idaho’s 28th-ranked 2018, and hoping some of his light hoops recruitment materializes into offers soon.
“Basketball has always been a main sport, and I’ve been working on trying to take that to the next level. I haven’t had a ton of contact yet (with college basketball coaches), and I have had some for football,” said Adamson.
“For basketball, I’ve had contact from Northwest Nazarene and Dawson Community College, and that’s pretty it.”
It’s his staunch defense and ability to can a pull-up J that have Adamson in such high regard by us. He defined his skill-set to PHID during a recent phone interview.
“The first thing I like to think about is my defense, I take a lot of pride in that. That’s how I know I can always consistently make an impact and get playing time. If I have an off shooting night, I’ll try and be a lock-down defender, and play smart team defense,” said Adamson.
“On the offensive side, my number one offensive threat is probably my pull-up jumper, or driving to the basket. And I’m a pretty good spot-up shooter. I’m a thicker guard, so I have a lot of advantages rebounding against smaller guards.”
His senior season is in its beginning stages, and he says being the team captain and being a leader for the Diamondbacks are his duties this winter.
“Last year, I was kind of a role player, and this year we have a new coach and I’m the team captain,” said Adamson. “And for my role, I’m just trying to be the best leader I can be, and lead by example.”
As for his recruitment, Adamson says the ultimate goal is to play Division I hoops. If he has to play JuCo two years to achieve that goal, he’s all for it.
“I just really want to find a school where I can find a good education and where I can also play basketball, because I love basketball,” he said.
“Ultimately my goal is to go Division I, whether I have to go to a JuCo then transfer or now, that’s the goal.”
