Prospect Spotlight: Shawn Hopkins (2018)
The 2017-2018 season is off to a fast start. There are players and teams that have started the season in impressive fashion. Shawn Hopkins is one of those players. In his first two games, he scored 49 points.
Shawn Hopkins is a 6-3 senior shooting guard/small forward for Benton Harbor High School. He is a high IQ player who is a slasher that likes to cut to the basket. Hopkins is a two sport athlete who also starred on the football field for Benton Harbor. He is a strong player defensively, and uses his long wing span to disrupt his opponents offense.
Shawn Hopkins has been hard at work preparing to make a statement this season. He has been in the gym working on the consistency and range of his jump shot. He played AAU basketball for GT United, a team out of Indiana. Hopkins also played football over the summer and fall which has helped him diversify his athletic abilities make him a better overall athlete.
Hopkins has clear cut basketball goals for this season and beyond. He wants to be recognized as an All-State player and wants his team to reach the pinnacle of success. “I would like to end my basketball career with a state championship trophy,” Hopkins said. He has a future as a college basketball player in his sights. Hopkins is definitely motivated for success. “My greatest motivator to achieve my goals is my mother,” he said.
Shawn Hopkins will be a valuable asset to a college basketball coach. He will bring an athletic slasher who is a disruptive stopper on the defensive end. Hopkins is an incredibly coachable player with a very high ceiling for success. He has been shown interest from Oklahoma Christian University. Shawn Hopkin’s recruitment should pick steam as he and his team build on a successful season.
