Notebook: Hall of Fame Classic
One of the most coveted high school events over the holiday season is the four team Hall of Fame Classic at New Castle. This year there was no one star that headlined the event but multiple really good teams. Oak Hill faced off with New Castle and Bloomington South took on Floyd Central for a shot at the championship. I recap below the night cap of the event.
3rd place game: Floyd Central 62, Oak Hill 56 OT
Oak Hill dominated most of the game and actually had a 16 point lead in the second half but a furious comeback by Floyd Central in the fourth quarter led us to overtime. Oak Hill just couldn’t get anything going the last four minutes and the overtime period cold from the floor. Floyd Central only had 12 points at the half but got going in the second half and overtime holding Oak Hill to just 30 points while scoring 50 of their own. A really good battle of top teams in the state in their respective classes.

Championship Game: New Castle 64, Bloomington South 57
No team had ever won a Hall of Fame Classic when they hosted it (it used to be hosted by different teams). But, that all changed tonight when New Castle knocked off the Bloomington South team. New Castle used their post players inside to kill Bloomington South and wear them out. Bloomington South did get off to a quick start by jumping out to an early 11 point lead after one quarter but New Castle showed just how much they wanted to win cutting it all the way down to go into the half tied at 25. It was a close game going into the fourth but New Castle scored 25 points to lead themselves to the Hall of Fame Championship.
