With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We will release one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we highlight St. John’s 2018 point guard Tre Wood.
PRODUCTION
While Wood’s scoring numbers can be relatively inconsistent, we know that he prides himself on locking down his man and creating easy looks for others. When SJC’s offense is humming, and the UMass commit is at the controls, it can be very enjoyable to watch. Look for Wood to prove a point this season with more consistent offense.
PERFORMANCE
SJC is absolutely stacked with young up and coming talent, but Wood will have to lead by example and help them perform to their full potential. Many have predicted them to finish toward the top of the league, but they still have business to take care off.
COMPETITION
The Cadets face a daunting schedule in their league, and will also compete in the National HS Hoops Festival. They already lost to a very good Mount St. Joseph team, and have another intriguing out of conference matchup this season against Georgetown Prep. Wood won the WCAC championship as a sophomore, and was first team all league last year. If he can use his experience to help his team make a strong run this season, his chances of being an All Met First Teamer are very good.
