With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We will release one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we highlight Myles Dread, a senior at Gonzaga.
PRODUCTION
Dread is the type of player that is usually able to deliver whatever the team needs. Whether its points, rebounds, assists, steals, deflections, or charges, he is more often than not in position to make the play. With the loss of Prentiss Hubb due to injury, Dread will likely be put into more of a playmaker role. He will draw a lot of attention from opposing defenses, and have an opportunity to create easy looks for others. Aside from what he contributes statistically, the intangibles Dread brings are simply priceless.
PERFORMANCE
One thing we know about Gonzaga is that they play a winning brand of basketball. Coach Steve Turner does an excellent job getting his players to buy in early. We don’t expect this season to be any different.
COMPETITION
This year, the Eagles open their season against a very good St. Frances team at UMBC. Goretti and Wilson are among a handful of respected programs set to attend the annual Gonzaga Classic. Gonzaga will also travel to Slam Dunk To the Beach, where they will face Bishop Loughlin (NY) and Harvard Westlake (CA). Oh, and we almost forgot to mention the rigorous schedule that faces them in the WCAC. If this group can pass the test, don’t be surprised to see Dread as an First Team All Met Candidate.
