Jake Kava talks Shanley Hoops, excitement for NDSU
Less than a week ago Jake Kava decided he wanted to play football at NDSU so he accepted a walk-on offer to join the team. Kava is also in the middle of a basketball season and his Deacons squad is 3-1 with Kava draining treys.
“We are off to a little bit of a slow start this year as a team returning as much talent as we did, it will be a good early test to see how we respond as a group to a little adversity, but it is still early and we just want to focus on changing our best everyday,” Kava told PHD.
Shanley has wins over Valley City, Wahpeton, and Devils Lake with a ten point to West Fargo. Kava had 19 in the opener, scored 35 in the loss to West Fargo, 16 in a low scoring game with Wahpeton, and then Kava had another 19 in the blowout of Devils Lake. That’s an early season average of 22 and a quarter a game.
Next up for Shanley will be a big game with WF Sheyenne, St. Mary’s, and then a monster contest with Fargo Davies.
“Challenges coming up will definitely be our game against WFSH on Thursday, and then a huge matchup against rival Davies over Christmas break,” Kava said.
“Our team goal is to win the EDC and we feel with the talent we have, we can make a run at a State title this year. Personally I just want to do everything I can to help my team to achieve these goals.”
Kava is a heck of an athlete which is why he committed to NDSU to play football next year. Kava also shares in that NDSU pride that so many carry strongly in the region.
“Well, they are dominating, and that is big reason why I chose to commit there,” Kava said. “NDSU has had one of the best cultures in all of college football in recent history. Now we just have to go get one against JMU.”
