Evaluations: South Putnam vs. Cloverdale
An early week rivalry game took place as South Putnam traveled to county foe Cloverdale. It was as lopsided as they come as Cloverdale flew out to an early lead and never looked back. Cloverdale hit nine three-pointers in the first half and it wasn’t a game after that. South Putnam wouldn’t make a first half three-pointer on eight tries. Jalen Moore led all scorers with 48 points. Cloverdale
Jalen Moore | 2018 | 5’10 PG
Since last year Moore has gotten a lot better and now is able to get to the rim even easier and his shot looks much better. Moore will fill up the stat sheet this year and could turn in quite a few double doubles. He is aggressive but yet willing to give up the ball. Absorbs contact really well and knows how to use his body to create shots against bigger defenders.
Jake Wilkes | 2019 | 6’3 SG
This is only his third year playing basketball and the improvements from last year to this year are very noticeable. He rebounds the ball harder and this year knows where he should be when the ball is coming up the court. He is much more aggressive and plays with a purpose and that has shown in his stat line this year. An off-game but I can see the improvement.
Nolan Kelley | 2021 | 5’11 SG
Kelley is a thin freshman that loves to shoot the corner three. It works as Moore drives into the lane and kicks it out but he will have to formulate more of a dribble drive game next year to compliment his shooting. His stroke looks good and he can hit it over defenders. Biggest thing is gaining confidence for himself.
South Putnam
Allen Plunkett | 2019 | 6’5 SF
Once South Putnam got behind in this one Plunkett started to force things just a bit. His shot looks much better than last year and his is much more aggressive. It looked like to me that he would take a couple plays off. He is by far the best player on this team and needs to play 100% all the time. A really solid player, he just needs to clean up some things to
Thomas Fanning | 2019 | 5’11 SG
Fanning is an interesting player who can shoot it a little bit and can get to the rim but struggles to finish once he is there. Fanning has a good burst when driving and can hit the pull-up. He’s an interesting guy to follow over the rest of this year if he can start making the shots he takes.
Dalton Scott | 2019 | 6’1 SG
Scott was really impressive in the game scoring 12 points and pulled down three rebounds. He was the second best offensive player for South Putnam and it wasn’t even close. He can create his own shot and can break his man down one on one. Scott is a guy who won’t do this every game but just enough to make him an intriguing prospect.
Kain Gregory | 2020 | 6’3 PF
Gregory is a post player who can mix it up inside and shows true toughness. He is a guy that is a little shy at times and a little standoffish to get it going on the offensive end but is a great rebounder and will pull down board after board. He comes off the bench but probably should be starting as he showed as much effort as anyone in this game.
