So far so good for Wyatt Hanson and the Jays
The Stanley Blue Jays were given the preseason number one ranking and they have lived up to the lofty expectations by beating everyone with a double digit margin. Six-foot-4 senior wing Wyatt Hanson is one of the top one or two prospects in the senior class and so far he’s excited about what his team has accomplished.
“I’ve learned that we have some things to improve on,” Wyatt said spoken like a true leader. “We have to work together better on defense and be able to develop a flow on offense.
“Our challenges coming up will include some big games. We have some key district games that we have to be ready for after break. We also have a match-up with one of the states top teams, Shiloh Christian, that will be a good challenge for us.”
Rematches with Burke County and Berthold are coming up in the near future and big games with Shiloh Christian and Our Redeemer’s, among others, are on the horizon.
“Our goal as a team is to get back to the state tournament, then take it from there and make a run for a title,” Wyatt said. “As for myself I just want to keep improving and do whatever I can to help us reach our goals.”
Hanson has the one more season playing with Stanley and then it’s off to Minnesota State-Moorhead where Wyatt’s college career begins. Hanson, who is either the state’s best prospect or the second best in the senior class, joins a solid recruiting class for the Dragons.
After a couple extremely impressive years the Dragons have struggled this year going 4-8. They were 4-5 when we talked to Hanson for this article but have since lost three in a row. That does not bring down the Hanson excitement for his future with their program.
“Moorhead is having a decent year,” Hanson said. “They have a lot of young guys that are beginning to learn to play together. I like how fast they play. They spread it out with lots of guards and attack you that way. It should be a great system for me to join.”
