Season Preview: David Crockett Pioneers
Though replacing 2017 team MVP and volume scorer Joshua Releford (Florida Southern) will require a new pecking order Head Coach John Good, this could be a big year for the David Crockett Pioneers with Mchale Bright, Paul Arrowood, Camara Bradley all back.
The hulking Arrowood and Austin Lewis serve as more traditional centers. Post feeds will find a friendly home in their hands.
Both Camara Bradley and Mchale Bright earned Region 1-AAA All-Tournament team honors last spring. They will find plays designed towards their hands more than through their hands.
In all, the team has capable scorers. Replacing Releford’s 1000+ point career will absolutely be the proverbial “team effort”, but it can be accomplished.
Sophomore Surge
Few teams in Region 1 boast as an experienced group of sophomores as the Pioneers.
Mchale Bright played plenty and revealed a sparkling shooting touch. Look for a monster season from the 6-foot-2 sophomore. Without Releford taking and making so many shots FGA’s are available to the most efficient shooters. Bright definitely gives the team a competent outside threat.
Adding Prince Kollie to the mix helps. The team definitely needs backcourt depth. Jordan Hensley, Bright, and John Kollie and possibly Prince will play, but most of the taller teammates lack the handles to attack from the arc. Last season the Pioneers really liked to spread the floor and let Releford create. This season passing will probably supersede the innovative, probing dribbles of yesteryear.
