Recruiting Report: Sy Chatman (2018)
Sy Chatman from Cretin-Derham Hall is easily one of the best available Minnesota talents for the class of 2018.
The 6-foot-8 forward will factor into a starting lineup this winter that has scholarship athletes across the board. He’s definitely one of them — right now, he has Siena and Bryant offers and is courting a couple other contenders.
“I’m setting up an official visit with Denver,” Sy told NHR. “I already visited Siena, and last weekend I went on an unofficial to Northeastern. As of now I am still trying to figure where I will go.”
Both schools have MN players on their respective rosters. Sy weighed in on both visits when we talked.
“The Siena visit was great,” he said. “I got a good feel for the school and got to see how intense practice was. I also got to hang out with Jordan Horn (Tartan). With Northeastern, it had a beautiful campus in a big city (Boston) and they also had a very intense practice. It was great catching up with Donnell Gresham (CDH) also. Both visits gave me a way to compare schools, and I liked both schools.”
The timeline and participants with Sy’ college recruitment are roughly set. He just has to think about the decision and follow through with a productive senior year.
“As of now, I think I might sign during the second signing period, although I plan on committing way before that,” he said. “Right now I’m looking at the schools that have offered due to the amount of trust and interest they showed in me. There are also schools that I am talking to now that have been recruiting me hard but haven’t offered. Down the line, if other schools offer, I will take them into consideration. I don’t know yet where I want to go.”
Cretin-Derham Hall is having some competitive open gyms to prepare for the season, and Sy mentioned some sleeper teammates who are on their way up the rotation.
“State title is our goal, of course,” he said. This year I feel Caleb Davis and Amari Carter will have big years for us, other than the starting five, because they are both crazy athletic and can shoot really well. They will give us a boost off the bench that we were missing last year.”
The Raiders are full of talent and are a Class AAAA favorite headed into this year.
