Prospect Spotlight: Mikale Stephens (2019)
Mikale Stephens – 5’11” | PG | 1Nation 16U UAA | Fort Wayne South Side
Mikale Stephens is coming off a solid summer where he started to showcase his true talents at the point guard position. He is a creative guard that is ultra-shifty with the ball in his hands. Stephens played this last summer on the Under Armour Association Circuit with 1Nation and will be leading the Archers of Fort Wayne South Side during the 2017-2018 season.
Mikale is one of the better passing point guards in the Class of 2019 in the State of Indiana. He can consistently get by the first defender off the bounce and create scoring opportunities along the back line. His jump shot has greatly improved throughout the last few months.
“I have to keep my turnovers down. I put a lot of time through the summer on getting my shot more consistent.” As Stephens becomes a more consistent threat from deep, he will see the driving lanes open wider and he will be able to get into the backline of the defense more frequently.
Another part of Mikale’s game that has flown under the radar in the past few seasons is his ability to pick up on the offenses tendencies. He is one of the best at beating the offense to the spot and causing live ball turnovers.
Mikale thrives in the open floor when he can show off his court awareness. He see’s things that a lot of guards at this level miss and he can make tough passes with either hand on the move.
“I’m working to become a lot better point guard than the previous years. I just want to push myself hard and make myself better. I want to lead my team as far as possible and push my sessions as well.”
Stephens is looking to use this season to work his way into the recruiting scene. He has the ability to play at the next level and is looking forward to showcasing his talents this year. “It starts with me pushing myself on and off the court. School first and basketball next. Can’t do anything or go anywhere without the grades.”
He has his priorities in order and understands the importance of academics when it comes to his future. Keep an eye on Mikale Stephens of Fort Wayne South Side as he looks to turn heads on a nightly basis at the helm for the Archers.
