LOS ANGELES, CA— It’s rare to see two-sport athletes in this day and age where most kids focus on one sport at an early age. However, Brayden Thomas appears to be an aberration compared to the typical athlete today.
The 6-foot-8ish sophomore is a definite prospect in both basketball and baseball. On the hardwood, despite his slight frame, Thomas likes to be physical at both ends of the floor. He can post up his defender, has broad shoulders, and his jump hook looks like a weapon.
“It’s early in my career, but I like to be physical and not force the issue on the offensive end,” explains Thomas.
Thomas is one of the rare two-sport athletes that excels in basketball and baseballHe runs well in transition, can nail the elbow jump shot, and he even gets into a defensive stance while defending on the perimeter. “In order for my game to improve, I would like to extend the range on my jump shot out to the 3-point line and become a more productive rebounder,” Thomas noted.
The upside is evident for the basketball, but he may be an even better baseball prospect. “I like each sport equally well,” explains Thomas. With his go-to pitches being the fastball as well as the change-up, fooling batters shouldn’t be an issue.
As the fall season comes to a halt and the regular season kicks in, look for college coaches to start to look into Thomas as he projects well to the Division 1 level due to an outstanding frame, budding skills, and a humble mindset.
