Pattonville Tournament (Wednesday Standouts: 2020/2021)
There were some impressive young players on display at the Pattonville Tournament. Here is a look at some of those standouts from the 2020 and 2021 classes.
Ryan Kalkbrenner 6’10” Trinity: The improved 2020 post player is showing signs of becoming a force around the basket. He had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in the first round win over Hazelwood East and eight more in the semifinals against Pattonville. He does a nice job of keeping the ball up and finishing around the basket and he can block shots. He also has a nice shooting touch. As he continues to gain strength, he will become an even bigger factor.
Rashad McDaniel 6’0″ Trinity: A physical 2020 point guard who has the ability to facilitate and also get buckets. He has good handles and he uses his strength to bully his way to the basket, but he can also knock down the 3-pointer. He hit a couple from long distance on Wednesday night.
Jeremiah Johnson 6’1″ McCluer: A thin 2020 point guard who scored 11 points in the Comets’ loss to Whitfield in the semifinals. He has good handles and runs the pick and roll well with the ability to get the basket, drop a dime or knock down a 3-pointer. Added strength will enhance his ability to get to the basket and make even more plays offensively, but he’s very skilled.
Jordan Gilmore 6’2″ Hazelwood East: One of the more impressive shooters that I watched on Wednesday night, the 2020 guard scored 14 points in the victory over Maplewood. He displayed a soft feathery touch from 3-point range, the mid-range and on his free throws. None of his made baskets touch rim at all. Very smooth in his on-court movements.
Jonathan Brown 5’10” Hazelwood East: A talented 2021 lefty point guard who scored 12 points in the victory over Maplewood. He displayed good knock-down ability with three 3-pointers from the left wing. He’s quick and handles the ball well in addition to his fine shooting.
