Breakdown: Now that Thanksgiving is over and high school playoffs for football are completed, the schedule gets much better and solid from now until Christmas. We begin the week with the J&C Hoops Classic up at Lafayette Jefferson High School on Monday with Twin Lakes vs. Lafayette Jeff. There aren’t but a handful of games on this night but you get a team in Twin Lakes that is in full on rebuild mode but they won their first game. They go against a really talented Lafayette Jeff team that could end up being really good this season. Might be a blowout for Jeff but could bring about some interesting thoughts following it.
On Tuesday, you have maybe the most interesting matchup the first couple weeks as Blackhawk Christian takes on Fort Wayne North. Blackhawk is really good and loaded with a big front line. North has one of the best players in the nation with Keion Brooks. The key in this one is if Blackhawk’s guards can slow down the wing combo of Brooks and Austin Boucher. They don’t exactly matchup great but if they can slow them down just enough, Blackhawk does have enough offense to win this game.
On Wednesday, Park Tudor heads to Lawrence North for LN’s first game of the season. It will be interesting to see how Park Tudor responds to an early loss to University. That isn’t a great way to start but there is enough talent on that roster to be good this year. LN could be very good and it will be interesting to see how they mesh together. Typically, they aren’t great in the beginning of the year which could make this game a fun one.
For Thursday, you get a look up in the Summit City against as Columbia City takes on Fort Wayne Northrop. Northrop is very young but so is Columbia City. These are two programs that have enough talent at the younger levels to where you could see this matchup being really, really big in two more seasons after those kids develop.
Friday night we get a look at a fun matchup between Indianapolis Howe and Cathedral. Cathedral is a team we really like as a 4A State Contender and Howe is one we like for 2A. Howe played a really fast paced style in their first game and put up a ton of points. Cathedral is a team that can score as well. Not sure how much defense will be in this game but this could be one that draws a lot of attention because of the outcome and stat lines that come out of it.
Saturday, we get another look at Fort Wayne North as they take on Hamilton Southeastern. If things go well for both teams, this could be the Regional Championship preview at Logansport later this year. HSE is really talented and like we talked about earlier, North has really good wings that can score. The difference here is that HSE has really talented wings as well and these two teams matchup really well together. The only difference that is very visible is HSE has a true post player in Mabok Majak and North doesn’t have anyone really. Should be a fun one on Saturday night.
