Newman is a player that any high school coach in America would want on his team, bottom line is the kid is a winner. He is so strong physically and mentally that he almost uses his will to get wins for Greensboro Day. He is a force on the defensive end and brings energy to every play in every game that he plays in.
Up until this summer, I had only seen Newman play in a handful of games, and wasn’t really sure what level he would wind up at. After seeing him this summer and last week at The Battle of the Carolinas’, I think that Clemson and the ACC is getting one of the best players in the country. He understands the defensive ritual that Greensboro Day uses to a T. He can cover so much floor on the defensive end he is a nightmare for opponents. He is skilled at scoring the basketball and understands his role. This season his role is more of a leader and a veteran and he is the main reason why Greensboro Day is one of the most feared teams in the country.
Clemson is getting a player, that I think can come in from the moment he steps on the South Carolina campus and make an impact. He will bring a fire and a tenacity to practices and will end up making everyone around him better. He is the ultimate competitor and doesn’t like to lose. Ever. He has the size and strength to come in and make an impact on both sides of the ball and is part of a really strong recruiting class for Brownell and staff.
