Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Andy Jean-Baptiste (2019)

Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
It was a fantastic experience I’ve been wanting to experience for a year now. Honestly, I had fun, but that learning type of fun (when you’re) playing against other talented players. The experience at Prep Hoops taught me a lot about basketball and boosted my confidence on the floor.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
I first heard about it through my personal coaches in my neighborhood, North Lauderdale, Broward County. M.T.E. workouts is their training program, also on Instagram.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
The best thing I learned is that basketball isn’t about just running up and down the floor, showing your talents. It’s about who understands the game more and can breakdown the defense for a automatic bucket or assists. Coaches aren’t only looking at talent, but if you can see the game at a view that most kids don’t.
Q: What positives in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
The positive is as a point guard, I learned to use my team more and orchestrate the offense a bit better. The negative I fixed is to stop trying to score all the time, knowing there’s five guys on the court. Prep Hoops prepared me mentally, in one day.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
I would absolutely recommend the Expo to friends, no doubt about that! Great way to invite coaches. You’ll earn more learning into your basketball world!
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
My role this season is to just work the ball, down-court passing, cutting & scoring. I’m really trying to show my coach that my role can be expanded due to my experience at the Top 250.
Andy clearly has the desire to take in as much as he can. As a coach, you yearn for student-athletes like this. His junior year can end up a great one.
