Sectional Preview: 62
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 62.
Crothersville (7-17) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
This past season, Crothersville was only able to pull out a 7-win season in a fairly top-heavy Sectional. It has been since 2011-12 that they got to double digit wins. While, they likely won’t have a huge year in terms of win total coming up, they do move to a very bad Sectional which could give them a chance to pull out a win or two.
Edinburgh (6-18) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Last season was a tough one for Edinburgh in a very good Sectional but like most in this new group, this new Sectional will be much easier. Edinburgh returns a group of upperclassmen that could help grow the team forward. It hasn’t been too long since this team was winning 12+ games a season.
Medora (3-20) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Medora was in a rough spot with their Sectional assignment last year and while it has gotten better, Medora hasn’t been able to top double-digit wins. They now will at least be put in a position to get their first Sectional win since 1996-97 but they must really improve upon the 42ppg they averaged last year if they are going to do that.
Shawe Memorial (1-22) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
This past year was one of the worst for the entire state with Shawe only getting one win all season, the first game of the year to Medora. The bright side here is that they were extremely young. They lose only one real contributor from this past season and bring back a pair of sophomores in Chandler Cole and Ethan Stuart that could be the core for three more years.
Trinity Lutheran (6-18) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Trinity Lutheran might have been the best of all the teams in this new Sectional but they might have taken the biggest hits. They lose their top two scorers from last year (22.8ppg combined) and six of their top seven. It will be a completely different team in a bad Sectional. Won’t be easy but they have the best recent success of any team in Sectional 62.
Contenders For 2017-18: Edinburgh, Crothersville, Trinity Lutheran
Prediction: Edinburgh
