Sectional Preview: 42
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 42.
Eastern Hancock (12-11) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Eastern Hancock had a pretty okay year last year with no real height on their team. They don’t lose anyone and this year will be the last to make some noise as they have eight seniors on the team. After this year, Eastern Hancock will take a nose dive. I expect them to firmly contend this year.
Indianapolis Howe (18-9) – Lost Sectional Final
Howe had a good year last year and now they are even better. With D1 commit Tony Hopkins back, they will really be able to shine. They lost a few players but none that played huge minutes which is very beneficial to their season this year. I think that it will be a huge season for Howe.
Irvington Prep Academy (18-6) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Irvington Prep had a stellar year last year and look to build off of that this year. They had a great group of guys and this year they only return five players. They do return their top three players but other than that not much comes back. They return the core so I think they will still contend this year.
Knightstown (3-20) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Knightstown obviously struggled last year and this year won’t be much different. They will be better but there isn’t much they can do in a stacked sectional like this one. They lose one player and return a lot of sophomores and juniors so they may be a year from contending.
Shenandoah (20-5) – Lost 1st Rd. Regional
Shenandoah lost their best player but do return a very capable squad this year. They still have a lot of talent and they will be looking for a big year from senior Chase Kinsey. They played a ton of guys last year and most of them are young and that only gives Shenandoah more hope for the future. They will stay in contention this year.
Triton Central (10-13) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
It was a down season last year for Triton Central but this year they will be back. They lost two guys who really played well for them last year but it was mainly a team of underclassmen. This year they will be back and looking to chase a crown with a team full of seniors and juniors.
Contenders For 2017-18: Eastern Hancock, Howe, Irvington Prep, Shenandoah, Triton Central
Prediction: Howe
Player to Watch: Wyatt Felling (Triton Central)
