Sectional Preview: 38
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 38.
Carroll (Flora) (6-19) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Carroll only scored 42.2 points a game last year and this year I don’t think they will be much better in terms of offensive output. They lose two players and have a ton of sophomores this year. I don’t think that can keep up with the scoring that will happen in this sectional.
Clinton Prairie (22-4) – Lost Sectional Final
After a great year, Clinton Prairie couldn’t bring home a sectional crown. They lose four seniors which will sting but they do have enough coming back that they will be competitive. They are a team full of seniors and because of that they will be hungry to win another sectional.
Covington (19-8) – Lost Regional Final
Covington made it the farthest of any team in this sectional last year and this year could be the same. They lost just two players from last year. Their second and fourth leading scorer are both gone but they still have a core coming back and that will make them very tough this year.
Delphi (12-13) – Lost Sectional Final
Delphi made a great run in the postseason after not having a great regular season. They have a ton of guys leaving so this year may be a little rough at first. They return their three leading scorers but lose their next four. I could see them having a year like last year since they have so much experience.
Fountain Central (7-19) – Lost Sectional Final
Fountain Central played awful in the regular season but still made it to the finals where they lost. They lose two players this year and I think they bring enough back to firmly contend. They play a tough schedule but they have always played tough basketball. They are led by underclassmen so they will be better each and every year.
Rossville (16-8) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Rossville had a good year last year but they will regress this year. They lose six of their top eight players and that is going to hurt them. Their returning leading scorer only scored 6.8 points a game and they will have to find scoring since they lost over 60 percent of last year’s total.
Seeger (7-16) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Seeger had an off year last year after a great year the year before. They only lose one player and all of the top scorers return. They are a tad undersized but they can shoot really well. They will get into some high scoring games this year and will win a few of them. They have the potential to score a ton so I think they can contend.
Contenders For 2017-18: Clinton Prairie, Covington, Delphi, Fountain Central, Seeger
Prediction: Covington
Player to Watch: Brock Bowlus (Seeger)
