Sectional Preview: 36
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 36.
Adams Central (6-17) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Adams Central started the year 3-0 but then nosedove the rest of the year. They lose four seniors but they do return the bulk of their team from last year including a 6’8 junior. A large senior class will make them viable to spring upsets but I wouldn’t view Adams Central as a contender yet.
Bluffton (5-18) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Bluffton had a rough year and this year doesn’t look like it is going to be any different. They lose their leading scorer and they only return 27.2 points of scoring with their returning players. This will be a year to gain experience as Bluffton is a young team.
Churubusco (17-9) – Lost 1st Rd. Regional
After averaging 66.8 points a game last year you would think that Churubusco is going to be pretty good again this year. That is not the case as their top three scorers averaged 52.3 points combined and all graduated along with three other seniors. Churubusco has been good for a long time but this year they will fall off.
Eastside (20-5) – Lost Sectional Final
Eastside loses five seniors after a stellar year. They won 20 games and should have won the championship. They are a very heavy senior group and now they are looking to secure the sectional championship. They have experience and that will help them in the postseason this year.
Fort Wayne Canterbury (8-16) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Canterbury had a down year but they were really young. They lose three seniors but will have seven players who played a lot last year return. The tough part is that they are going to have to find a way to replace their scoring. With their leading scorer returning, they should be able to turn it around this year.
South Adams (11-12) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
South Adams has been on the rise for awhile and I think this year they will plateau. They lost a few big time guys from last year but they return enough to win at least 10-13 games if the dominos fall right. This will be a year they can be average and contend due to the weakness of this sectional.
Contenders For 2017-18: Eastside, Fort Wayne Canterbury, South Adams
Prediction: Eastside
Player to Watch: Cam Kreiger (Fort Wayne Canterbury)
